Question 1

How do I check my eligibility for government jobs on JobAndExam?

Accepted Answer

You can use our free interactive 'Eligibility Matcher' tool (located under Tools in the navigation). Select your highest educational qualification (10th, 12th, Graduate, Engineering, etc.), enter your age, select your reservation category (OBC, SC, ST, EWS, General), and the tool will instantly filter and display all live recruitment notifications you qualify for.

Question 2

What is the age relaxation rule for OBC, SC, ST, and PwD candidates in Central & State Govt jobs?

Accepted Answer

As per standard Government of India guidelines:
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years relaxation on upper age limit.
• SC / ST Candidates: 5 Years relaxation on upper age limit.
• PwD (General/EWS): 10 Years relaxation.
• PwD (OBC): 13 Years relaxation.
• PwD (SC/ST): 15 Years relaxation.
• Ex-Servicemen: Deduct period of military service + 3 years from actual age.
Specific notifications may offer additional state-level relaxations for female candidates and home guards.

Question 3

What should I do if money is deducted but my application fee status shows 'Pending' or 'Failed'?

Accepted Answer

Do not pay the fee immediately a second time. Bank gateways usually reconcile transactions within 24 to 48 hours. Follow these steps:
1. Check your bank statement for a transaction reference number (UTR/Txn ID).
2. Wait 24 hours and log in again to the official commission portal (SSC, UPSC, IBPS, State PSC).
3. If status remains unpaid after 48 hours and the application deadline is approaching, initiate a fresh payment and submit a grievance ticket to the commission's helpdesk with your first transaction reference for a refund.

Question 4

What is the 'Application Form Correction Window' and how can I fix mistakes?

Accepted Answer

Most recruitment boards (like SSC, NTA, RRB, and State Selection Commissions) open a correction window for 2 to 5 days after the main registration deadline closes. During this period, you can log in and rectify errors in your name, photograph, signature, post preferences, or exam city choice by paying a nominal correction fee (typically ₹200 to ₹500).

Question 5

What is the validity period of an EWS (Economically Weaker Section) certificate?

Accepted Answer

An EWS Income and Asset Certificate is valid for One Financial Year (April 1 to March 31). It is issued based on the gross annual family income of the financial year prior to the year of application (e.g. for recruitment in FY 2026-27, income of FY 2025-26 is assessed). Always ensure your certificate is dated within the crucial financial year specified in the official notification.

Question 6

What are the standard dimensions and file size for uploading Photo and Signature?

Accepted Answer

While exact requirements vary by board, standard government job portals require:
• Photograph: 20 KB to 50 KB in JPG/JPEG format (Passport size, white or light background, taken within last 3 months with face covering 70-80% of frame, without caps/dark glasses).
• Signature: 10 KB to 20 KB in JPG/JPEG format (Black or blue ink on white paper).
• Certificates (Caste/Degree/PwD): 100 KB to 300 KB in PDF format.

Question 7

When are Admit Cards and Exam City Intimation slips usually released?

Accepted Answer

Recruitment boards typically follow this schedule:
1. Exam City Intimation Slip: Released 10 to 14 days prior to the exam date so candidates can book travel and accommodation.
2. Official E-Admit Card / Hall Ticket: Released 3 to 7 days before the exam date containing exact venue address, shift timing, and reporting instructions.

Question 8

How can I retrieve my forgotten Registration Number or Password?

Accepted Answer

Go to the official examination login page and click on 'Forgot Registration ID / Password'. You will be asked to enter:
1. Your registered Email ID or Mobile Number
2. Candidate Full Name & Date of Birth
An OTP or password reset link will be sent immediately to your registered phone and email.

Question 9

What mandatory documents must I carry to the examination hall?

Accepted Answer

You must carry the following items to avoid disqualification at the gate:
1. Printed copy of your Admit Card (preferably colored printout with clear barcode).
2. Original Govt Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, or Voter ID). Photocopies/digital scans on phone are NOT accepted.
3. Two recent passport-size color photographs matching the one on your admit card.
4. Category/PwD certificate (if applying for scribe facility).

Question 10

Can I request a change of Exam City or Center after the admit card is issued?

Accepted Answer

No. Recruitment bodies (UPSC, SSC, IBPS, RRB, NTA) strictly do not entertain exam city or center change requests once admit cards have been generated, as seating arrangements and biometric data are pre-allocated across testing servers.

Question 11

How does Computer Based Test (CBT) work and how are questions marked?

Accepted Answer

In a Computer Based Test (CBT), candidates answer multiple-choice questions on a digital terminal:
• Green: Question answered.
• Red: Question visited but unanswered.
• Purple: Marked for Review (will be evaluated if answered).
• Grey: Not visited yet.
You can change your answers anytime before the final timer expires. Answers are saved instantly on the local test server.

Question 12

What is the formula for Negative Marking in government examinations?

Accepted Answer

Most competitive exams deduct marks for incorrect objective questions:
• 1/4th Negative Marking (0.25 penalty): E.g. If correct answer carries 1 mark, wrong answer deducts 0.25 marks (common in Banking, IBPS, Police).
• 1/3rd Negative Marking (0.33 penalty): E.g. If correct answer carries 1 mark, wrong answer deducts 0.33 marks (common in UPSC, SSC CGL Tier-1, RRB).
• No penalty applies to unattempted/skipped questions.

Question 13

What is Normalization of Marks and why is it used in multi-shift exams?

Accepted Answer

When lakhs of candidates appear for an exam conducted across multiple shifts and days, slight variations in question paper difficulty occur. Normalization is a statistical formula (like equi-percentile method or mean-standard deviation formula) used by SSC, RRB, and NTA to equalize scores across easy and tough shifts so no candidate is unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged.

Question 14

In which languages are central government exam question papers available?

Accepted Answer

As per the latest Ministry guidelines, major central exams (SSC MTS, SSC GD, RRB Group D, NTPC, and Banking) are conducted in 15 regional languages in addition to English and Hindi (including Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu).

Question 15

What is the difference between Provisional Answer Key and Final Answer Key?

Accepted Answer

• Provisional Answer Key: Released 3 to 7 days after the exam along with candidate response sheets. Candidates can verify their attempted answers and raise formal objections against disputed questions.
• Final Answer Key: Released after subject matter experts review all candidate challenges. Scores are calculated strictly based on the Final Answer Key, and no further objections are accepted.

Question 16

How can I raise an objection against an incorrect answer key question?

Accepted Answer

Log in to the objection portal using your Roll Number and Password during the objection window (usually 3 to 5 days). Select the Question ID, provide standard documentary evidence (e.g. NCERT book page, reference author text), and pay the challenge fee (typically ₹50 to ₹100 per question). If your challenge is upheld by the subject panel, your fee is refunded.

Question 17

What happens in Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination?

Accepted Answer

Candidates shortlisted in written/CBT stages are called for Document Verification where original 10th marksheet (for date of birth proof), degree certificates, caste certificates in prescribed central format, and photo IDs are physically inspected. After DV, candidates undergo a medical fitness examination (visual acuity, color blindness, physical standards) prior to final appointment letter dispatch.

Question 18

What is a Reserve List / Waiting List in Sarkari Result announcements?

Accepted Answer

Many recruiting authorities (UPSC, State PSCs, Banking boards) maintain a Reserve or Waiting List (typically 10% to 20% beyond sanctioned vacancies). If selected candidates in the main list do not join or fail document verification, waitlisted candidates are offered appointment orders in order of merit within 1 year.
